Around 2 months ago I took on a very new lifestyle of starting a Paleo diet. I know I am a designer and you might be wondering "Why the hell is this dude blogging about his diet? I love french fries!" but this does actually have something to do with design.
So with that said I will skip the majority of what is involved in a Paleo diet but for those who aren't familiar with it at all. You basically cut out all grain, dairy, sugar and legumes from your diet. So basically a designers worst nightmare because you can't gorge on pizza, tacos, soda, sweet tea, donuts or 89 cent bean burritos. You can however eat steak. A shit ton of steak.
The start of my journey wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be. After about a week I didn't really crave any of the things I couldn't have, except whiskey but I pushed forward. The real kicker was that literally after a few days of not eating any of those "bad" things I now am not interested in, I was sleeping better, had more energy and DING DING was designing like a champ. I found it so much easier to concentrate and even brainstorm up new ideas, maybe a few too many ideas involving bacon but overall I felt a huge change in how productive I was.
My point isn't to tell you to stop eating pizza and get "healthy" because for some people, pizza is brain fuel. I wanted to show you how change can help stir up new ideas, not that I was in a major slump but the smallest bit of change in your daily routine, music choices, lunch destination, etc. could very well be the result of your next awesome project. So go forth and change it up!
